Work has been busy now for me. I am
currently working on some data analysis and mathematical modeling for a study
that was conducted in 4 major cities in Shanghai. I also attended a Harvard
Lecture series on the creation of some new epidemiological/ biostats software
that takes some elements from SPSS and SAS, very interesting,wish I could have
understood more, but as it was a lecture in all Chinese this was difficult!
Dinner with Fudan U faculty has been a
blast. In celebration of visiting Harvard professors we went to a restaurant
called “Young” off Zhaojiabang Lu. It was delicious and lots of Tsingtao beer
was drank. The faculty keep saying “gan bei” which means bottoms up! Wow!
Tricia and I didn’t think that working at the university meant displaying our
beer chugging skills, but apparently we are now known as the fun American party
girls, oh great…
We have now been to the French
Concession area a few times. The homes in this area are huge and have ornate
architecture, from back when the French occupied this area. Once, the homes
were single family mansions, but now these homes have been converted into
apartment like multi- family buildings. There are many quaint streets that have
clothing shops and restaurants. Mostly, we walked around a portion of this
large district and snapped a few photos.
On May 28th we took
the metro to West Nanjing Lu in search of Hancheng city. This “city” is known
as the knock off brand market of our area. Unfortunately, after much walking
and attempting to ask for directions we could not locate this market, in the
West Nanjing area. So we discovered a great area of high end department stores,
and a wide variety of bakeries. The REAL Dior, Gucci, Chanel etc, is out of our
price range – so we settled for CoCo Curry House, yes- there is one in Hawaii
and ate dinner. We have decided we will go back and attempt to find Hancheng
city again, and probably stop in a bakery and try a dessert, they all smelled
and looked amazing!
